Not unlike the British Invasion in the 60s, there was an American invasion in the mid-70s on the Progressive Rock scene - until Kansas came around, it was exclusively a British affair. Put away your tea and crumpets, this band rocked hard and worked hard. Their first album is a Progressive Rock masterpiece! True to American style, taking an idea and making it our own, the most commercially viable Progressive Rock Band in the decade where it all began was Kansas. Another major difference between Kansas and their British counterparts, all the original members hung together during the pinnacle of their success through the 70s. Straight from the heartland - as they proclaim on the back cover of their debut “In spite of the fact that this is our first record, we have around 50 years of combined musical experience in one of the most unmusical environments imaginable…” From these humble beginnings came 30 million albums sold, eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum studio albums, one Platinum live album and a million selling gold single. They were a constant on the Billboard charts in the 70’s and 80’s for over 200 weeks, every single one of their albums in the 70’s and 80’s charted…all based on the strength of the two main songwriters Kerry Livgren and Steve Walsh.
