The Progressive Rock Hall of Fame Project is not just another new site. Its purpose is to legitimately set in motion a real and viable way to honor those involved in music's highest artform. Progressive Rock is music advanced to its highest level - lyrically, melodically and rhythmically. With this in mind, we hope to unify this great form of music by providing a home for all involved in this field from musicians, labels, radio stations, Progressive press outlets and fans of this genre.

This is a LIFETIME achievement award, not just focusing on great accomplishments of the past. Steve’'s music is still vital today. His recent releases during the Progressive Rock Hall of Fame voting year 2007, remain true to form, Progressive and featuring top notch artists, drummer Joe Franco, guitarist Joel Kosche and violinist David Ragsdale - with world-class producers Jim Roberts and Larry Stock. His recent songs were even entered into the Grammy process for this current year, only one other Progressive Rock Artist was even in the process at all.
Our membership has chosen this artist, who seems to be on almost every Progressive Rock artist’'s dream list. If they could have anyone in the world do their vocals, who would it be? Definitely, Steve Walsh. In fact, besides his work in Kansas he was sought after as a vocalist by other Progressive Rock legends, singing on Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett’'s second solo effort, “Please Don’t Touch”, the Dixie Dregs “Industry Standard” and he was even auditioned by Yes in the eighties. Countless other Neo-Progressive artists have dreamed of having him sing on their albums, and in the 90’s he was on Progressive Rock projects like: Daniele Liverani’'s Genius - A Rock Opera and Trent Gardner’'s Leonardo - The Absolut Man.
His vocal prowess would be enough to garner this award alone, but in addition, his intricate keyboard parts are played to perfection live while he sings counter rhythms flawlessly in tune at the same time. Many of his Progressive Rock vocalist peers of the time only sang, or played minimal instrumental parts. Now add into the mix a great stage presence and amazing showmanship, even doing headstands on his keyboards and playing behind his back, enchanting arena rock audiences around the world.
His songwriting contributions can not be overlooked either. He had his hand in such amazing Progressive Rock masterpieces like, “Journey From Mariabronn”, and other Kansas Progressive Rock songs like “Apercu”, “Mysteries and Mayhem“, “Questions of My Childhood“, “Paradox” and “The Wall” written with Kerry Livgren. Ones penned exclusively by Steve include Progressive Rock masterpieces like “All the World”, “The Spider”, and “Back Door”.
Among the many impressive things about Steve Walsh, one that stands out is his ability to reinvent himself for every decade, every style, yet still maintain musical integrity and rise to the top of the genres.
His solo albums always included the best musicians of the day, from guitar virtuoso Steve Morse, to current guitar idols like Joel Kosche of Collective Soul.
